›Does the extension send the message by itself?
No. It opens WhatsApp Web directly in the chat with that number and the text already filled in. You review it and press Enter (or the send button) inside WhatsApp to actually send it.
›Do I need to be logged in to WhatsApp Web?
Yes. The first time, WhatsApp Web shows a QR code: open WhatsApp on your phone, go to Linked devices and scan it. After that the extension opens the chats directly.
›WhatsApp says the phone number is invalid. What now?
Check that the right country is selected and type the number with the area code, without the country code, without a leading 0 and without trunk prefixes. Example for Brazil: country Brasil (+55), number 11 91234-5678. Spaces, dashes and parentheses are ignored. Also make sure the number has a WhatsApp account.
›I clicked the icon and nothing happened / I cannot find the icon.
Click the puzzle icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin Message to Whats. Clicking the icon opens the side panel on the right. The extension needs Chrome 116 or newer — check in chrome://settings/help.
›Will the panel close when I click on the page?
No. Since version 2.2 the extension uses Chrome's side panel, which stays open until you close it with the ✕.
›Where is my draft stored? How do I erase it?
The country, number and message are saved only in your browser (chrome.storage.local), so nothing is lost when you close the panel. The Clear button erases the number and the message. Removing the extension erases everything.
›How do I change the language?
Use the PT / EN / ES buttons at the top of the panel. By default it follows your browser's language. Country names are translated too.
›Can WhatsApp open in a new tab instead of the current one?
Yes — turn on Open in a new tab. The choice is remembered.
›Does it read my messages, contacts or browsing history?
No. The extension has no access to WhatsApp, your contacts or the pages you visit. It only uses two permissions: sidePanel (to show the panel) and storage (to keep your draft). See the privacy policy.
›Can I send to many numbers at once?
No, and it will not — the extension is for one-off conversations, not bulk messaging (which breaks WhatsApp's terms).
›Does it work on Edge, Brave or Opera?
It is made for Google Chrome. Other Chromium browsers that support Chrome's side panel (such as Edge and Brave) can install it from the Chrome Web Store, but they are not officially tested.
›Is this an official WhatsApp product?
No. Message to Whats is an independent, free and open-source project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by WhatsApp or Meta. WhatsApp is a trademark of WhatsApp LLC.
